Things to Do |
Things to Do There is no Pub in the village but excellent places to eat and drink are within three miles. The Crown at Kirkoswald does good food (closed Wednesday lunch time) and if you feel like walking there is a nice walk to it along the Ravens Beck from the village. There is also a small shop in Kirkoswald. The Shepherd at Melmerby also does good food, and the Organic Bakery has a teashop open every day, which does great breakfasts. There is a Co-op in Lazonby (4 miles), which is very well stocked, and a big Safeway’s in Penrith. Lazonby also has an open-air swimming pool, which is open in the summer and is the nearest station on the Carlisle to Settle railway. There are loads of local places to visit too many to list, you will find leaflets in the cottage. We like Long Meg and her daughters (there is a picture in the Lounge). Talkin Tarn is not far away, the teashop is open daily and there are boats to hire. Alston is 10 miles away and Penrith about 15 miles. From Penrith it is about a 10 minute drive into the Lake District National Park.
